Media Release – August 2018
It takes far more than an overcast day and the threat of rain to deter a true fisherman from Newfoundland! The weather Saturday August 11th may have been dark and dreary however the spirits of Bob Bethune as well as his family and friends were never brighter. Bob was the 2018 recipient of the St. Gabriel’s Villa “Make a Wish” Program. The program grants one wish per year to provide a unique and meaningful life experience. Bob started his special day by providing his wife of fifty years with an anniversary gift as the couple celebrated their fiftieth anniversary on August 10th. The next stop was Whitewater Park in Azilda where Bob, his wife Diane and sons Steven and Randy boarded a pontoon boat for an afternoon of fishing, all made possible by community volunteers Larry Henri and Bobby Leclair. Both men gave their time as well as Bobby’s pontoon boat for the afternoon excursion. A fisherman seldom tells his secrets, however Bob did share the secret to his success was all in the kiss he gives to his fishing rod before each fishing outing – and work it did as Bob came through with one pike that was later released. To end his special day Life Enrichment Assistant Carole Poitras made Bob and his guests some of Bob’s favorite foods which included pickerel snacks, moose stew and moose meet balls. It was a special day that will long be remembered by everyone who took part. Congratulations Bob!
