I am pleased to advise that PHSD has declared the SJV COVID-19 Outbreak over. This Outbreak was declared on December 31st 2020 due to a staff member testing positive. As a result, all residents and staff were tested and received negative results.

I cannot thank enough our dedicated staff in the continuing efforts they put in day in and day out to provide the best possible care to our residents even during these very difficult times. Once more, their determination to fight the spread of COVID 19 was a key factor in our ability to contain the spread of the virus.

The residents can now return to having meals in the dining room following the infection and control practices that were introduced during this pandemic.

Shutdown Update

With the continued shutdown and the recent declaration of emergency, we continue the following:

  • General visits are not permitted.
  • Only 1 essential visitor per resident at a time will be allowed to care for their loved one. Please remember that essential visitors require a Covid–19 negative result not older than 7 days to enter the building.
  • During visits everyone is required to wear a mask and eye protection such as goggles or a face shield.
  • Non essential items will not be allowed in the facility.
  • Resident leaves of absence are not permitted.
  • Residents will not be allowed to leave the property unless it is for an essential medical appointment.
  • Essential visitors are to show proof of a negative Covid-19 result not older than 7 days

Vaccination Update

While specific timing for vaccine availability to our home remains unknown, it is important to ensure that all homes are prepared for vaccine administration. I wanted you to be aware we are in the planning stages and will share information with you once we have vaccines available for our facility. Vaccination priority is established via Public Health standards and they are working in collaboration with each facility’s Infection Control Representative.

We are anticipating receiving a COVID Vaccine sometime in the near future, at this time the vaccines will be for our residents only. In order to be prepared to administer this vaccine in short notice, we will be contacting you in the next week regarding consent.

Stay tuned for ZOOM education sessions with Dr J McElhaney, who has previously been involved in many vaccine trials, and improving the vaccination process. She is currently involved in an initiative at the national level to increase vaccine confidence.
