Paul Marleau

Chair

Paul Marleau joined the Board of Directors in June 2015. He has held senior positions in Sudbury’s most prominent companies including Northern Cable Services Ltd.  Mr. Marleau was also the Chair of the Greater Sudbury Utilities Board of Directors.

Andre Durette

Vice Chair

André Durette is a lawyer in Sudbury, employed at Cambrian College since 2001, currently serving as Director, Human Resources. He joined the St. Joseph Health Centre board in 2016.

Linda Wilson

Past Chair

Linda Wilson, Past Chair of the Board of Directors of St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre of Sudbury, has been a member of the Board since June 2011.  She is a past member of the Board of Directors of the St. Joseph’s Foundation of Sudbury and is a current a member of the Board of Regents at the University of Sudbury.  Prior to her retirement in 2010, she was the Director of Marketing and Institutional Relations at Cambrian College in Sudbury.

Dr. Marion Briggs

Director

Marion Briggs’ career spans more than 45 years in three Canadian Provinces and two States in the US.  Shepracticed clinically as a physical therapist and was a physical therapist and the Director of Rehabilitation Services at the University Hospital in Edmonton.  At the U of A, she was a research associate with the John Dosseter Health Ethics Centre in Edmonton where she was part of a research team examining relational ethics as the foundation for clinical bioethics.  She was the CEO of Seeds of Corporate Consciousness, a management consulting firm specializing in organizational dynamics.  She held positions as practice leader, operations leader, operations leader for a long-term care centre and an assisted living facility, and practice consultant in Vancouver, BC.  She has worked in medical education at the Eastern Virginia Medical School, in Norfolk, Virginia, and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Laurentian Campus.  She is a Fellow with AMS Health, Toronto. In addition to her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy (U of A), she holds a Master of Arts in Leadership (Health) from Royal Roads University in BC, and a Doctoral degree through the Complexity Management Research Institute at the University of Hertfordshire in England.  Her doctoral work was related to understanding health care practices through the perspective of complexity theory.  Marion is married to Janet McElhaney; they have one daughter (son-in-law) and a grandson.  Marion and Janet live in Sudbury, Ontario, where they enjoy living on Long Lake.

Suzanne Dubien

Director

Suzanne is currently the Senior Manager of Human Resources with the Sudbury Catholic District School Board, and has been in the role for 11 years.  She was previously Manager of Human Resources with the Espanola General Hospital (now known as the Espanola Regional Hospital and Health Centre), which provides acute care, long-term care, and assisted living services.

Laura Freeman

Director

Laura is a graduate of Laurentian University and is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA).  She is also a graduate of the Advanced Health Leadership Program from the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management. Prior to her retirement in 2018 she held senior executive positions in the public and private sectors, including Women’s College Hospital, Peterborough Regional Health Centre and Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre. Laura was appointed to the SJHC Board in June 2018.

Ray Hunt is Chief Administrative Officer of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, where he is responsible for management of the resources, infrastructure and systems essential to the operations of the School. Prior, Mr. Hunt held leadership positions as CEO of the Espanola Regional Health Centre and in the Ministries of: Health and Long-Term Care, Municipal Affairs and Housing, Northern Development and Mines. Mr. Hunt is also currently a director with Health Force Ontario Marketing and Recruitment Agency.

Sr. Shirley Anderson

Sister of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie Representative

Sister Shirley Anderson been the Sister of St. Joseph’s of Sault Ste. Marie representative on the St. Joseph’s Health Centre Board of Directors since 2017. She was the former General Superior of the Sisters of St. Joseph’s of Sault Ste. Marie and also served on their leadership. Sr. Shirley previously served on the SJHC Board of Directors from 1995-1998 and on the Sudbury General Hospital Board from 1984-1994.

Sister Mildred Connelly is a Sister of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie representative on the Board of Directors. Sr. Mildred has held several leadership roles in education, health care and for the Congregation and continues to serve on a variety of Board and committees.

Sr. Sarah QuackenbushSr. Sarah Quackenbush

Catholic Health Sponsor of Ontario Representative

Sister Sarah Quackenbush is a graduate from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy and a Masters in Health Administration and has worked as a physiotherapist, health administrator and as an educator with the Catholic Health Sponsors of Ontario. She has served on several healthcare boards and professional organizations in Ontario.

Tony Niro

Bishop Representative

Tony Niro is honoured to be the new representative for the Most Reverend Marcel Damphousse –the new Bishop of this Diocese. Tony and his family have been active members of Our Lady of Hope Church since early 1990’s holding several board, committee and liturgical positions over the years.  Tony currently works for Yallowega Bélanger Salach Architecture and has over 25 years of experience in the construction and renovation of health care facilities.  Tony has also volunteered to sit on the Property committee for SJHC.

Jo-Anne PalkovitsJo-Anne Palkovits

President and CEO

Jo-Anne Palkovits has been the President and CEO of St. Joseph’s Health Centre since 2003. In addition, she has been the CEO of St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre (opened in 2009) and the Administrator of St. Joseph’s Villa (opened in 2003) and Villa St. Gabriel Villa (opened in 2011) since their respective openings. Ms. Palkovits was instrumental in transitioning St. Joseph’s Health Centre from its acute care site on Paris St. to its new Village of Care on South Bay Rd. and in Chelmsford. By working with the Board of Directors a new vision was created to provide non-acute services to the Sudbury community including continuing care, long-term care and rehabilitative care in order to carry on the good works of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie and the healing mission of Jesus.

Ms. Palkovits is a Certified Health Care Executive and a graduate of Laurentian University with a Master of Arts in Human Development and a Bachelor of Science of nursing. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts, Kinesiology from the University of Western Ontario. Ms. Palkovits is a strong supporter of our community and has served multiple years on the Boards of the Sudbury Community Foundation, United Way Fundraising Cabinet, ACCESS AIDs, NEON Lights representative on the Canadian College of Health Leaders Board and is currently a member of the Cambrian College Board of Directors.

Ray has been working in Long Term Care since 1996. He has been with the organization since late 2010 and was part of the original team that opened Villa St. Gabriel Villa on March 28, 2011. Originally overseeing Environmental Services as the Environmental Services Manager, Ray has been Site Administrator since May 2014.
