Daniel Sirois Board Chair

Daniel Sirois

Board Chair

Mr. Sirois was appointed Chair of the St. Joseph’s Board of Directors in 2021. He is a lawyer and partner at Weaver, Simmons LLP. He is fluent in both English and French. He has appeared before various levels of courts including the Ontario Court of Justice, Superior Court of Justice, Ontario Court of Appeal, Federal Court and various tribunals. His community involvement includes service on local and provincial boards including, L’Association des juristes d’expression française de l’Ontario, VON Sudbury and District, Alzheimer Society Sudbury-Manitoulin North Bay & Districts and Brain Injury Association Sudbury and District. He has particular interest in health care and ensuring that appropriate care is provided within the community.

Catherine Huneault is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Certified General Accountant (CGA). She has been employed at Greater Sudbury Utilities since 2002, currently serving as Vice President, Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer. In 2019 she received her certification of Professional Director through Governance Director Inc. Catherine is new to the St. Joseph’s Health Centre Board of Directors as of 2020

Sister Mildred Connelly is Vice Chair and a Sister of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie representative on the Board of Directors. Sr. Mildred has held several leadership roles in education, health care and for the Congregation and continues to serve on a variety of Board and committees.

Kari Gervais is the President and Chief Executive Officer at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Sudbury. As the leader of the organization, she provides executive level oversight of the sites owned, operated, and/or managed by St. Joseph’s Health Centre: St. Joseph’s Villa, St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre, and Villa St. Gabriel’s Villa. With more than 20 years of experience in strategic and operational leadership in long-term care, continuing care, and rehabilitative care, Kari is dedicated to ensuring our residents and patients are receiving compassionate high-quality care, and to advocating for ongoing improvements to the health system.

In her previous role at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, she served as the Vice-President of Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Executive since 2009. Kari’s primary responsibilities included advocating for the advancement of nursing and allied health professionals, promoting high quality, evidence-based care and service to our residents and patients, and opening and evolving the geriatric rehabilitation care streams at St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre. During her 15-year tenure in that position, Kari was instrumental in the development and opening of the first stand-alone post-acute care hospital in North Eastern Ontario and went on to lead St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre to become a centre for excellence in rehabilitative and continuing care.

Before joining St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Kari spent the first 9 years of her management career in the Long-Term Care setting where she discovered her passion for improving the quality of health care, particularly for older adults.

Kari holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a certification in Gerontology, a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Management, a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, and is a Certified Health Executive.

Mia Bourque

Mia Bourque is currently the Community and Culture Liaison for the ACHWM (Aaniish Naa Gegii : Children’s Health and Wellbeing Measure) , a measurement tool to help Indigenous communities understand the health and wellbeing of their children and youth. She is also part-time faculty at Cambrian College teaching Indigenous Studies. She is a proud Indigenous and Francophone woman who strives to stay active in the community- and for this reason is absolutely thrilled to be serving on the St Joseph’s Health Centre Board.

Ray Hunt is Chief Administrative Officer of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, where he is responsible for management of the resources, infrastructure and systems essential to the operations of the School. Prior, Mr. Hunt held leadership positions as CEO of the Espanola Regional Health Centre and in the Ministries of: Health and Long-Term Care, Municipal Affairs and Housing, Northern Development and Mines. Mr. Hunt is also currently a director with Health Force Ontario Marketing and Recruitment Agency.

Prior to joining the Canadian Mental Health Association – Sudbury/Manitoulin in 2014, Stephanie had been working in the field of Public Health for over 10 years. With a focus on health equity and the social determinants of health, she has contributed to programs and policy at the local, provincial and national levels. She is passionate about creating opportunities for all members of our community to be well and live life to the fullest. Whilst at CMHA-S/M, Stephanie has served in the roles of Manager, Community Mobilization, Manager, Quality & Strategic Engagement, and is now the agency’s Director of Programs and Planning. Stephanie holds a Masters in Social Work in Community Development and Social Planning from Wilfrid Laurier University.

Todd Robson

Todd Robson is an award-winning communicator, strategist and problem solver with agency, journalism, government, national and local news experience. He’s also a veteran who served with the United Nations in the early 1990s in the former Republic of Yugoslavia.

His clients cover a wide spectrum, including post-secondary institutions, health care, mining, technology start-ups, manufacturing companies and communications agencies in Canada and the United States. Todd has also completed his San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training and is able to incorporate Indigenous relations to his client work and projects.

Born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario, Natalie obtained her Bachelor of Commerce at Laurentian University in 2020. Natalie also obtained her Juris Doctor in 2020 from the University of Ottawa’s Programme de common law en français. She was called to the bar in March 2021 and is now practicing Corporate/Commercial Law. Fluently bilingual, Natalie practices law in both official languages. Natalie has always been passionate about healthcare and ensuring quality care in the North, which is why she is grateful for the opportunity to serve on this board.

Sister Sarah Quackenbush is a graduate from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy and a Masters in Health Administration and has worked as a physiotherapist, health administrator and as an educator with the Catholic Health Sponsors of Ontario. She has served on several healthcare boards and professional organizations in Ontario.

Tony Niro is honoured to be the new representative for the Most Reverend Marcel Damphousse –the new Bishop of this Diocese. Tony and his family have been active members of Our Lady of Hope Church since early 1990’s holding several board, committee and liturgical positions over the years.  Tony currently works for Yallowega Bélanger Salach Architecture and has over 25 years of experience in the construction and renovation of health care facilities.  Tony has also volunteered to sit on the Property committee for SJHC.

Barb Desjardins is the Vice President of Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CGA). She joined St. Joseph’s Health Centre in August of 2005, following a fifteen year career in public accounting. Her portfolio covers the areas of finance, human resources, information technology, corporate education, quality/risk and privacy/policy.

Roger LeveilleRoger Leveille

Site Administrator

Roger has been with the organization since 2009 and was part of the original team that opened St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre. Prior to being assigned to the role of Site Administrator, Roger oversaw the Environmental Services departments for St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre and St. Joseph’s Villa in the position of Environmental Services Manager. This follows a 20 year career in project management in the manufacturing sector.

Ray has been working in Long Term Care since 1996. He has been with the organization since late 2010 and was part of the original team that opened Villa St. Gabriel Villa on March 28, 2011. Originally overseeing Environmental Services as the Environmental Services Manager, Ray has been Site Administrator since May 2014.
